It’s Children’s Dental Health Month

Tooth decay is one of the most common chronic diseases in children, but there are many things parents and caregivers can do to help kids have a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums:

  •  Limit sugary snacks – instead, choose fresh fruit, raw vegetables, cheese and nuts

  • Brush with toothpaste that has fluoride and floss each day, especially before bedtime

  •  Have regular dental check-ups – ask your dentist about dental sealants to protect your children’s back teeth from decay

  • Choose fresh tap water over sugary drinks, especially if your water has fluoride in it

I want to encourage everyone to put a change of clothing into your child’s backpack each day.  It’s a way to “Be Prepared” in the event of unexpected occurrences.  We’ve all “been there” at one time or another—something spills on our clothing, snow pants leak wetness onto our jeans, or we don’t get to the bathroom fast enough are just a few examples.  An extra outfit from home (shirt, pants, socks and undies) means your child can discreetly change into his/her own clothes.

Is your child rapidly growing out of their clothes?  H.O.P.E. in Lyndonville has vouchers available ($15/month per person) to help keep your child covered up.
